Your life starts the day you find something you’re so passionate about, you’d be willing to die for it. You have to find something to die for and live for it. Until you find that thing, your life will lack meaning. One of my older relatives told me that I shouldn’t curse, shouldn’t talk about political issues, and should just make money and lay low. If I followed that advice, I would live a life just as miserable as the person who gave me the advice. That’s not my style. That person is living without something to die for. Just a cog in a wheel, trying to have a come up without being noticed.

fear is your God

Fear Is Your God

Until you have something you’re willing to die for, your life will be defined by your fears. When you are plotting out your life, you will be limited by what’s acceptable and safe in your mind. Once you have set these limits, you’ve created a little box around your life. Within that box, you can do whatever you want. The problem with this line of thinking is the fact that all your actions are rooted in fear.

Let’s use the example above of the person who gave me unsolicited advice. Let’s call him Dre. If I were to accept the fears of Dre as my own, then my life would be limited and defined by fear. Before I make a decision on what I want to do, I subconsciously or consciously would say to myself, “I can’t curse, can’t talk about political issues, and need to fly under the radar. Now, what can I do within those limits.”

Not cursing, not talking about political issues, and staying low key would be the box I created around my life that I cannot exit. This is how many people live their lives. If you live your life like this, most likely it is not your fault. These fears were given to you by the people you trusted. Most of your fears were given to you before you were old enough to reason.

Although most of your fears are not your fault, it’s still 100% your responsibility to do something about it. You can’t just say, “It’s not my fault so whoever’s fault it is better fix it.” Nobody cares about you as much as you do, so you’re the only person who will commit the time it takes to clear your mind of your fears. Also, no one can do your mentality work for you anyway, it must be done by you.

If you live inside a box constructed by fears, then fear is your God. When you have to check in with your fear before making a decision, fear is your God. When you are more obedient to your fears than to your spiritual practice, fear is your God. When your fears determine your fate, then fear is your God. When fear is your God, your life will not be as fulfilling as it should be.

purpose driven life

Shifting From Fear To Purpose

I want you to experience what I’m experiencing; a life defined by passionate beliefs instead of a life defined by fears. I found something to die for, now I’m living for it. I lived a fear based life for 23 years. I experienced short bursts of surface level happiness, but never deep-seated joy. Since I’ve redefined my life based on an empowering belief system, I am truly happy the majority of the time. Everyone deserves to experience a fulfilling life.

Hopefully, you already have an idea of what you’re passionate about. If not, you’ll need to set some time aside for finding your essence. Once you find the one thing you love doing more than anything else, sit with it for a while. Sit with your thoughts and think about your one thing. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Is it something that you’d be willing to dedicate all the days of your life to pursue?
  2. Would your life be purposeless without it?
  3. Is it worth 80 years of your time?

If you answered yes to those three questions, then my last question for you should be an easy one to answer. Would you be willing to die for it? The answer should be a resounding YES. If you answered yes to the first three questions, then your life would seriously suck if you spent most of your life doing anything other than the thing you’re passionate about. Your life would lack purpose and meaning.

Horemheb Power

You’re Powerful

The most powerful people at their respective level are the people who are not afraid to die. This is one of the reasons it would be wise to find something to die for and live for it. Once you have something you’re willing to die for, you become one of the most powerful people at your level.

Picture a prison. Which group of inmates are the most powerful and feared in a prison? The lifers, because they are not afraid to die. Unfortunately, they’re not afraid to die because they have nothing to lose. Nonetheless, they are still the most powerful people at their level.

When you’re not afraid to die for what you believe, you are set up for extreme success. You have something that other people only dream about, a fearless life. When I left my cushy job in corporate America, one of my coworkers said, “I’m not as brave as you.” That means they want to leave their job and live a fulfilling life but are currently letting fear define their existence. That is not a position of power and will not lead to a fulfilling life.

defined life

Redefining Your Life

Once you have something you’re willing to die for and you’re not afraid to pursue it with all of your being, you can then redefine your life. Redefine your life around your burning desire. Look your fears in the eye and tell them to GTFO of your life. You don’t have time for them anymore since you are now living your life on purpose and with passion.

Instead of living in a box and checking in with your fears, now you can live without limits and check on your purpose. You no longer have to say, “I can’t curse, can’t talk about political issues, and need to fly under the radar. Now, what can I do within those limits.” Now you get to say, “How is this getting me closer to living out my purpose?” When every decision you make is vetted against your major life purpose, life becomes amazing!

I urge you to toss your fears to the side and start living a life of purpose on purpose. You will be happy you did. The sooner you make the decision to live out your passion, the happier you’ll be. Don’t let another 10 years go by before you decide to give life a try. Make the decision right now to live a life with no fearful limits!
